How to Set Up a New Instagram Account

Oleg KarozaOleg Karoza, Founder8 min read

New Instagram accounts are watched more closely. Early mistakes can limit reach, while proper setup helps future content reach non-followers.

I Start With the Device

Start with the device before creating the account. Use a modern physical iPhone. Do not create the account from a browser, emulator, or other indirect setup. The device should run current Instagram updates without performance issues.

The objective is simple:

  • I want the account to look and behave like a normal user from day one.
  • A clean device creates a cleaner foundation for everything that follows.
1

Use Mobile Data

The first configuration decision is the network connection. Use a SIM card with mobile data. Do not use Wi‑Fi when setting up or operating the account.

The account is being introduced to Instagram as a real user operating from a real device. Mobile data supports that objective and becomes part of the account's overall trust profile.

At this stage, simplicity matters more than optimization.

2

Create the Account From Scratch

Next, I create a completely new account. The goal is separation.

A dedicated email gives the account its own recovery path, login history, and identity rather than connecting it to unrelated projects.

The Instagram account is only part of the setup. I also create a dedicated iCloud account for the device. This keeps the environment clean and avoids unnecessary links between multiple accounts or projects. The structure is straightforward:

  • A fresh Gmail address
  • A new Instagram account
  • SMS verification
  • One phone
  • One iCloud account
  • One Instagram account
3

Warm Up the Account Before Posting

Creating the account is not enough. A brand-new account has no history, making it difficult for Instagram to distinguish normal activity from promotional activity.

Before I start publishing, I spend approximately five to seven days using the account normally. During that period I:

  • Scroll through the feed
  • Watch Reels
  • Follow relevant accounts
  • Explore my niche
  • Research content ideas

Continue Behaving Like a Real User

Many people treat account warm-up as a one-time task.

I do not.

Even after content publishing begins, I continue spending time on normal platform activity. Before posting and after posting, I still browse content, watch videos, and interact naturally with the platform.

The question is not:

  • Did I warm up the account?

The question is:

  • Does the account continue behaving like a normal user?
5

Publish Unique Content

Once posting begins, content quality becomes the next decision. All content posted must be unique. Do not repeatedly upload identical content. The only content that can be reposted exactly is very viral content. Repetition creates unnecessary risk while providing very little information about the account's ability to grow.

The objective is to build publishing history based on original content rather than duplication.

  • Post three Instagram Reels per day per account.
  • Post three Instagram carousels per day per account.

Wait Before Adding External Links

Many accounts try to convert traffic immediately. I prefer establishing trust and reach first. When an account has no views, no engagement, and no history, external links provide little value anyway.

The timing matters because the account first needs evidence that it can attract attention organically.

  • Create the account.
  • Build activity history.
  • Publish content.
  • Gain traction.
  • Add external links.
7

Monitor Account Health

Publishing content is only useful if Instagram continues distributing it. For that reason, I regularly review account status and distribution signals. The most important questions are:

  • Can people who do not follow the account still discover the content?
  • If reach becomes restricted, every future content investment becomes less valuable.
  • The account may still be posting, but the distribution opportunity has changed.

Answer: Build Trust Before You Build Reach

The setup process is not about creating an Instagram account. It is about reducing uncertainty before investing production resources into content.

The process is simple:

  • Start with a modern physical phone.
  • Use mobile data.
  • Create a fresh Gmail account.
  • Create a new Instagram account.
  • Use a dedicated iCloud account.
  • Spend five to seven days warming up the account.
  • Continue normal activity after publishing begins.
  • Publish three Instagram Reels and three Instagram carousels per day per account, keeping the content unique.
  • Delay external links until the account gains traction.
  • Monitor account health and distribution.

An Instagram account becomes valuable when Instagram is willing to show its content to people who have never seen it before.

The setup process is designed to increase the probability of that outcome before significant content production begins.
